HAZARDOUS WASTE
SURVIVAL GUIDE
Who Regulates What?
Introduction
A variety of agencies and programs are involved with safety and environmental protection. Businesses that generate hazardous wastes and/or use hazardous materials must comply with an increasing number of requirements. Understanding the requirements, or even "who regulates what," can be frustrating for smaller businesses.
This chapter provides an overview of agencies which are likely to regulate your company.* Each agency description
Resources are FREE unless otherwise noted. Contact numbers are either provided or listed in the Phone Directory under the appropriate agency.

This chapter is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to compliance. The summaries serve only to inform you of applicable requirements. You should contact the individual agencies for full compliance details.
Be sure to notify all applicable agencies of any major changes your business is planning to make in the way it will use, store, handle, or dispose of hazardous materials or wastes. Applicable requirements may also change. Discussing your plans in advance may save you time and money by preventing any inappropriate investments.
